Zentangle Tile Watercolor Demo with Fun Patterns Bolly and Buds
This week I enjoyed watching a video from Kelli Blouin and Audrey Shantz as they demonstrated how to add watercolor backgrounds to your tiles. I played with several Zentangle and homemade tiles and really enjoyed the outcomes. I found some patterns from CZT Barbara Duel Johnson that I also enjoyed very much. In this video I demonstrate how I added color to three tiles, and then show you how to draw the patterns Bolly and Buds. They are fun and easy and I hope you enjoy them!

Zentangle Easy Mindful Monotangle Tile with Shattuck and Fragment W7
Переглядів 96812 годин тому
For today’s Mindful Monotangle, I was inspired by a video from Melinda Barlow where she used the pattern Shattuck to create a reticulum, and then she filled it with the pattern Pepper. For mine, I decided to use the fragment W7, but you could fill it with many different patterns or fragments. Melinda Barlow’s video on Shattuck as Reticula is here: ua-cam.com/video/r6iJ7gS7fhc/v-deo.html The vid...
Zentangle Summer Garden Tangles with 8 Easy Patterns

This is my summer garden Zentangle tile with eight fun and easy patterns. The weather has been so rainy lately, so I wanted to create a fun tile. I pulled several of my 2x2” patterns from my notebook and just randomly picked a pattern to add to the tile. It was unplanned and fun. I hope you enjoy the results. Patterns used in this video: Wud by Margaret Bremner, CZT. The step out is here: enthu...

Zentangle Easy Mindful Monotangle Tile with Cabbage Rose This is the second pattern in my new Mindful Monotangle playlist. It may look complicated, but it’s very easy and it has beautiful results. I love patterns with simple steps that are easy to remember as you create your Zentangle, and this one is also very pretty when you add shading or color. Zentangle Easy Mindful Monotangle Tile #1 with Tufton

Today I started a new playlist called “Mindful Monotangles” because I love tiles that only have one pattern. I find that it’s very easy to relax and get into the Zen when I’m only drawing one pattern. My first video shows the pattern Tufton by Jodi Christiansen, CZT. It’s an easy grid pattern, and when you add shading the results are beautiful. It looks like a tufted pillow, and I called the pa...
Easy Classic Zentangle Tile with Centipede and Vortex

In today’s video I’m showing one of the older Zentangle patterns called Centipede and I share four different ways to draw this simple pattern. I used String 107 that was recently shared on the Tangle Patterns website, and filled it with the pattern Vortex by Sandra Strait. I was afraid it might be odd looking, but I like how the tile turned out. I hope you enjoy it. Patterns used in this video:...

      The graphite pencils from Zentangle are 2B, which is a regular pencil but short and doesn’t have an eraser. If you like a deeper black then a 4B is nice. Zentangle now sells both and I have enjoyed using both.

    Thanks for always showing us something new so we will have a new tool in our zentangle toolbox. Barbara Duel Johnson seems to do a lot of flowy organic tangles. I have found a number of hers in the When Life Gives You Lemons Tangle All Around book. It has been years since I have done any watercolor so it was nice to get the paints back out. But after putting the watercolor on, it seems like I was pressing down on the pn nib too hard…so another nib worn down. Not sure if it was the paper that I was using (watercolor sketchbook from Moleskin) or that the watercolor made another layer that my pen had to overcome. Maybe it will work better on zentangle tiles or smoother watercolor paper.

      You're so welcome and thank you! I'm happy to share. 🥰❤ I've seen Barbara's pattern in that book also (great book!). But she posts all her patterns on Pinterest if you have an account. Just search there for Barbara Duel Johnson. The Micron PN is usually a little stronger than the other pens, but I do find that some paper is more textured than others so it could have been that also.

    Thanks for the great video. I like your pace and conversation. It felt like tangling with a friend. While the tangle was simple it also helped me to understand Zentangle more deeply. I’m wondering the difference between tangles and fragments and reticula. My understanding is that Shattuck is a tangle. However, the grid used for Shattuck and I imagine the Shattuck shapes within the grid are fragments. Is this right? Are new tangles sometimes just new configurations of fragments and reticula?

    • @notperfectzen
      @notperfectzen 4 дні тому

      Thank you so much, Julia. I appreciate your comments. I have a playlist for fragments and reticula. This video might help you understand: ua-cam.com/video/Xt6xbwZ0kUs/v-deo.htmlsi=P9WAHJKOO7fyZI4x A fragment is really just a small pattern that can easily work in a grid. I used the basic part of the Shattuck pattern (tangle) to create a grid. I hope that helps. Thank you for watching! 🥰❤️

    I am new to Zentangle and just found your channel. So appreciate that you give credit to the original designers and include the pattern name. It helps to be able to find other inspiring artists that use the same pattern. So much creativity!
